Chief Justice of the Alberta Court of Justce James Hunter is pleased to announce the appointment of Justice Joyce Lester as Assistant Chief Justice of the Edmonton Criminal Division starting on November 22, 2023.

Lester graduated from the University of Alberta law school in 1984 and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1985. She has since built a law career in Edmonton.

In 2008, Lester was appointed a Justice of the peace for the Provincial Court of Alberta. From 2009 to 2014, she was the administrative justice of the peace for Edmonton and northern region hearing offices, which included supervising 16 other justices of the peace. Until her appointment as assistant chief justice of the Alberta Court of Justice, Edmonton Criminal Division, she served as a justice for the Edmonton Criminal Division of the Alberta Court of Justice, a position she has held since 2014.
