Effective January 19, 2024 the Alberta Court of Justice Provincial Hearing Office will not initiate telephone Emergency Protection Order (EPO) Hearings with members of the public between 11:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. An EPO Applicant who has not been contacted by 11:30 p.m. on the day their application was submitted will retain their position in the queue when hearings resume the following morning at 8 a.m.
The Provincial Hearing Office will continue its practice of only accepting applications outside of regular business hours. A member of the public wishing to apply for an Emergency Protection Order during Court Operating hours should do so in-person at their closest open courthouse, which can be found here: https://albertacourts.ca/cj/court-practice-and-schedules/court-calendar
The Provincial Hearing Office will continue to hear Emergency Protection Order applications made by peace officers or other individuals designated under s. 3 of the Protection Against Family Violence Regulations 24 hours a day.
