Announcement - Indigenous Background Reports
Effectively immediately, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta will use the term “Indigenous Background Reports” in place of the term “Gladue Reports”.
This change follows extensive consultation and collaboration, including with the Courts of Appeal for the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, and Alberta Court of Justice.
Going forward, justice system participants should use the term “Indigenous Background Report,” a more descriptive and respectful phrase.
Posted court forms and other external communications will be amended to reflect this new policy.
