Effective
immediately, the Court of Appeal of Alberta will use the term “Indigenous
Background Report” in place of “Gladue Report”.
This change
follows extensive consultation and collaboration including with the Courts of
Appeal for the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, Court of King’s Bench of
Alberta, and Alberta Court of Justice.
Counsel and
parties should use “Indigenous Background Report,” a more descriptive and
respectful term.
Posted court
forms and other external communications will be amended to reflect this change.
