Shaner—Background Summary
Initially educated
at the University of Alberta law school, Justice Shaner practiced as a lawyer
in the Northwest Territories before being appointed a judge
of the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories in 2011.
Immediately prior to her appointment to
the bench, Justice Shaner had worked with the Department of Justice of the Government of Northwest Territories in
a range of roles as legal counsel, Director of the Legal Division, and
Assistant Deputy Minister.
Since 2019, she has
been the judicial nominee of the Chief Justice of the Northwest Territories for
the Federal Judicial Advisory Committee for Northwest Territories.
