New Appointments to the Court of Appeal of Alberta

The Honourable Michelle G. Crighton, a judge of the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench in Edmonton, is appointed a judge of the Alberta Court of Appeal in Edmonton to replace Mr. Justice J. Watson, who elected supernumerary status effective January 1, 2016. She is also appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal for the Northwest Territories and a judge of the Court of Appeal of Nunavut.

Madam Justice Crighton was appointed to the Court of Queen’s Bench in 2007. She received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta in 1984, and was admitted to the Bar of Alberta in 1985.

Madam Justice Crighton was an associate and then partner with McLennan Ross LLP from 1985 to 2007.

The Honourable Jo’Anne Strekaf, a judge of the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench in Calgary, is appointed a judge of the Alberta Court of Appeal in Calgary to replace Mr. Justice P. Martin, who elected supernumerary status effective September 1, 2016. She is also appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal for the Northwest Territories and a judge of the Court of Appeal of Nunavut.

Madam Justice Strekaf was appointed to the Court of Queen's Bench in 2007. She received a Bachelor of Laws from the Queen’s University in 1980 and a Master of Laws from the Cambridge University in 1986. She was admitted to the Bar of Alberta in 1981.

Madam Justice Strekaf was an associate and then partner with Bennett Jones LLP from 1981 to 2007.
